The Rain Man
On Easter Day we think of bunny rabbits and
Easter eggs on grass covered hills where eggs roll down, meadow lands with
humming bees, of love, roses, daffodils and a message from the tulips that say
love to all of you from the bottom of my heart!
My brother John Wallace lives
next door to Rain Man. John and Rain Man were born in 1940 more than seventy four
years ago, on Easter Sunday in Orem, Utah in the same hospital, and on the same
day. Rain Man was popularized by Dustin Hoffman in the movie by the same name. Dustin
often came to Orem while making the movie “Rain Man” to talk with Darley, (Rain
Man) so as to help make the movie more authentic. Darley was just a person
until Dustin heard about his ability to solve math problems. Since then Darley
has become a mathematical associate professor at Brigham Young University in
Provo in the Physics department, in collaboration with industry leaders to help
prepare students in college and after College for successful work with
world-class businesses like the Fortune 100 companies3 IBM and Cisco Hewlett
Packard to develop degree programs that provide real-world knowledge.
John Michael Kiser, Dustin, writers, producers,
Tom Cruise and others made the movie “Rain Man.” The rest is history. Darley
became wealthy from the success of the movie and has since been on talk shows
and public appearances ever since. Unlike the movie he is still in his wheel
chair and plans to be with Dustin for a big 74 yr. B.D. celebration in Orem on Easter
2014.
The next time Easter will be this early
(March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this
early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were
around for that!).
The next time it will be a day earlier,
March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was
on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any
earlier than this year!
