Poem
COLUMBUS
In fourteen hundred and ninety-two 3 little sailing
vessels sailed the ocean blue There
never were ships so brave as the three
The Nina Pinna the Santa Marie.
Good strong sails the little
ships had They sped
them free on the ocean blue Pinta the Nina and Santa
Marie
The little ships found their way through the tide.
Never have
ships been brave as the three
The Pinta, the Nina and Santa Marie
They showed
the way for the ocean liners Of today. I’ll tell you
how the sun rose.
A ribbon at a time.
The sight swam in amethyst Columbus
ships ran in with full main sails. The Pinta, the Nina and
Santa Marie.
The hills untied their
bonnets
Then said I softly to myself This
land must be India We’ve gone around the world.
When the ships
reached land the Indians came They
follow the friendly Incas to their homes in Peru And gave a ship load of their gold and gave To the great white God
Columbus.
God of our Father abiding with
thee will bless you And trust you if you give your gold to me. They fired off
their muskets to prove that They could destroy
or save the Inca Nation.
America is so full of a number of
things I’m
sure the gold will please Queen Isabella
This
land is God’s land that goes from sea to sea
The Pinta, the Nina and Santa Marie.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just Or
the land of the free and home of the brave.
