ANGRY
CROWS ATTACK
Psychology
physics, cute characters, and lots of cheering angry crows are dominating the best-selling-applications charts using a
simple, whimsical premise: players turn different species of scowling birds
into projectiles with which to crush a collection of grunting pigs scattered
around various ramshackle structures.
Everything starts as an idea. For many of us,
we often think we may have the next best thing, but we don’t pursue it. For
those people who take it to the next level, concepts are developed, prototypes
are designed, and what once started as an idea will likely turn into a reality.
At first four angry crows acted basically the same in spite of their
appearance. An actual Jackdaws Crow, Doug Allen, a brown Species of Crow,
previously mentioned, was used for dozens of the sketches made by artful Fred
Farfunkel who is a tad of artistic. He has done some of today’s top
downloaded mobile applications across multiple platforms.
Mr. Farfunkel. said,
“Four
angry crows didn’t fall into its current outstanding popularity without a lot of
inspiration and hard work. I took a simple idea and ran with it as fast as my
little feet would go. I started development in 2006 and today the fan base is
already playing over a combined 350 million hours of angry crows each day. That’s
an incredible feat, no matter how you look at it. You may not have seen the original
screenshot that started it all, but most of you have seen how admired and
successful it is. We had a number of proposals that came from our team. Many proposals
were really well thought out. We used the screen platforms that are also
compatible with other gaming platforms. The main goal we had was make it has to
be easy to learn and play but hard to master. That is exactly what was created.
It takes around 10 seconds to comprehend what is going on and the joy obtained
from pulling back on the little slingshot to send angry crows flying through
the air. Mastering it though is not an easy task having to score 4 stars on a
level, finding all the golden eggs, hitting the structures just right and the
game quickly turns from easy to very challenging and even frustrating. It’s
amazing how simple the game is in the first place.”
“Simple
design or not,” US said,
“Fred Farfunkel‘s come a long way with the
game, polishing it every inch of the way. The physics are great, the graphics
are super crisp, and it is a blast to play, which is clearly reflected in the
number of downloads a day. Passion beats me every time. The Strange Pig-like Creature
is the first concept art of the birds, sketching similar creatures for
different ages. The character design was put in good.”
US Grant further comments that,
“The
four middle aged crows are just as exciting as young crows are the first day
they are hatched. I don’t think of the creatures as pigs as such, only
something similar. As the concepts were further developed, the design gradually
evolved more into that of swine. Downloads contain wallpapers for smartphones
and continue to offer more goodies daily. The game makes sure you’re not bored
as you try to complete each level with 4 stars and find all of the hidden eggs
along the way.
A number of famous people are said to
be fans of Angry Crows. High-brow roster of fans include. U.K. Prime Minister
David Cameron has said he plays the game on his iPod, a spokeswoman for the
prime minister didn't return a request for comment.) The author Salman Rushdie
in a recent radio interview called himself "something of a master at Angry
Crows." And comedian Conan O'Brien posted a YouTube video recently to
promote his talk show, in which he boasts that he's on level 5 of angry crows.
Angry Crows is one of the latest to join the
pantheon of "casual games" that have appealed to a mass audience with
a blend of addictive game play, memorable design and deft marketing. The games
are designed to be played in short bursts, sometimes called "entertainment
snacking" by industry executives. There is no stigma attached to adults
pulling out their mobile phones and playing anytime day or night. Games like
Angry Crows incorporate cute, warm graphics, amusing sound effects and a reward
system to make players feel good.
A scientific study from 2009 found that casual
games provide a "cognitive distraction" that could significantly
improve players' moods and stress levels.”
So there you have it. Angry Crows is
dominating the best-selling-applications charts. Not since the invention of
bacon and eggs has the collision of fowl and swine tasted so good.
