SING A SONG FOR A CHERRY TREE
ANY DAY WILL DO
A whispering pine once said, Come lets plant a cherry tree, We’ll use a spade, make wide its hollow bed. Where we will plant a cherry tree, a seed will do.
“And
cover over with water and earth
The lovely work of nature, We’ll think of birds and greening trees
Sing a song for a cherry tree any
day will do.
“We’ll
think of orchards far from town
Of heights where streams Come
tumbling down,
Where
bluebirds sing and play.
“Where
rain is coaxed from flying clouds Till
everything is clean and fresh Everywhere you see.
We’ll see a tiny cherry tree wake up.
“Then
throw the earth aside
And stretch for a climb to the
sky, Come, sing a song for my cherry tree
Any day will do.
